How to Add a Mailgun Connection?
Mailgun is an email-sending service that provides reliable email delivery for your WordPress site. To establish a connection go to the Connections tab, and follow the steps below:
- Click the Add Connection button.
- A sidebar menu will slide in from the right.
- Select Mailgun to open another sliding sidebar with the Mailgun connection fields.
Configure the Mailgun Connection Fields
1. Connection Title
- Enter a unique title for this connection.
2. API Key
To connect your Mailgun account, you need to enter an API Key. This key allows SureMail to authenticate and send emails through Mailgun securely.
- Where to find the API Key?
- Log in to your Mailgun account.
- Click the Dropdown Arrow right next to the profile section from the top navbar, and open the API Security tab.
- Click Add new key.
- Enter a Name for your API key in the Description box to easily identify it later, then choose the Role from the dropdown menu.
- Here is your Mailgun Private API Key. Click the Copy icon to copy it.
- Paste the API Key into the Mailgun connection settings.
3. Region
- Select the region from the drop down US or EU. This should match what you have set up in Mailgun (anyone outside of the European Union should select the US option). Learn more at Mailgun.com.
4. Domain
- You have to provide the domain that you added and verified in your Mailgun account.
Follow the steps and screenshots below to verify your domain with Mailgun.
Open the Sending panel to open the Domains tab, then click the Add New Domain button.
Added the domain name
Domain Region: Choose the domain region based on your site’s hosting location. If your site is hosted within the European Union, select the EU option. If it’s hosted outside the EU, leave the default set to US.
DKIM Key Length: This advanced setting enhances spam protection by adding an extra layer of security. We recommend selecting the 2048 option for a longer DKIM key, making it harder for spammers to bypass.
Click on Add Domain.
Once you add the domain, you’ll be redirected to the DNS records tab to verify the domain and activate the configuration. At this point, each record will appear as Unverified.
Now, go to the domain provider where you registered the domain and open the DNS settings. Next, add all the Mailgun records for Sending, Receiving, and Tracking, as shown in the screenshot below, to your site’s DNS provider.
After adding the above Mailgun records to your DNS, come back to this page and click the Verify button. Once Mailgun verifies the DNS changes you’ve made, each record will be displayed as Active/Verified.
After verifying the domain, a tick mark will appear next to your domain name, indicating active status.
5. From Email
- The “From Email” should be the email you verified with Mailgun.
6. From Name
Specify the From Name that should be used for all outgoing emails.
- This is the name that recipients will see in their inbox when receiving emails from your site.
- You can use a combination of your name and company name as from name.
7. Connection Sequence for From Email
- Default Value: 10
- Determines the Sequence of this connection.
- Lower numbers indicate higher priority. If multiple connections are available for a given From Email, then the connection with the lowest sequence number will be used first.
By configuring the Mailgun connection properly, you ensure reliable email delivery from your WordPress site with the correct sender details.
