How to Configure Gmail SMTP in SureMail
Overview
Setting up Gmail SMTP with SureMail allows you to send emails from your WordPress website using Google’s SMTP servers. This ensures reliable email delivery with authentication and security.
Prerequisites
- A Google account (Gmail or Google Workspace)
- SureMail plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site
- Less secure app access enabled (if using a personal Gmail account) OR an App Password (recommended for better security)
- SMTP details for Gmail
Step 1: Enable Less Secure Apps or Create an App Password
For Personal Gmail Accounts:
Google has restricted less secure apps, so using an App Password is the recommended approach.
- Go to Google Account Security.
- Enable 2-Step Verification if not already enabled.
- Scroll down to the App Passwords section.
- Generate a new App Password for “Mail” and copy it.
For Google Workspace Accounts:
- Log in to the Google Admin Console.
- Navigate to Security > Access and Data Control > Less Secure Apps.
- Enable access to your account if necessary.
Step 2: Get Gmail SMTP Settings
Use the following SMTP details in SureMail:
- SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
- SMTP Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- SMTP Authentication: Yes
- Username: Your Gmail address
- Password: Your App Password (or Gmail password if less secure apps are enabled)
Step 3: Configure SureMail
- Go to WordPress Dashboard Settings > SureMail Click on the Connections tab
- Select Other SMTP Provider as the SMTP provider.
- Enter the SMTP details:
- Connection Title
- SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
- SMTP Port: 465 or 587
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Username: Your Gmail address
- Password: Your App Password
- From Email
- From Name
- Connection Sequence for From Emai
- Click Save Settings.
Troubleshooting
- Authentication failed? Ensure you’re using an App Password instead of your Gmail password.
- Emails not sending? Check Google security settings to confirm SMTP access isn’t blocked.
By following these steps, you can successfully configure Gmail SMTP in SureMail for secure and reliable email sending.
